Dwellbeing Netwalking For Mums/Dads/Caregivers of Babies and Toddlers

13.30-15.00 Meet outside the Marine Hotel

Walking in the world mindfully, especially in nature is a wonderful practice. We will be walking together using prompts to connect to each other and to our wonderful local environment where we dwell. The ability to meet other new parents has been restricted during the pandemic and the importance of our connection to others and nature has become increasingly apparent; this series of circular walks address this need. Clare Jackson incorporated walking into her artistic practice during her M.A. and has continued to encourage people to ‘go out every day into nature and feed their soul’. The walk will incorporate an emphasis on wellbeing, an intimate connection to location and nature and meeting others sharing the experience of the day and nurturing a new generation in the unpredictable world we live in. www.people-to-place.co.uk

Suitable for parents/carers of babies and toddlers and their little ones in slings, prams or buggies. Although we love dogs, as this is foremost a baby and child friendly activity, we would prefer that they remain at home for this particular walk.

We're Going on a Caterpillar Hunt

13.00-15.00

There are Caterpillars in Whitstable that feed in the stems and roots of the plants and we need your help to find them by hunting for their poo!

We are Butterfly Conservation, working on a Kent specific moth project (Kent’s Magnificent Moths). We are working throughout Kent to de-bunk myths on moths, they aren’t all boring pests that munch on your jumpers!! In fact only one species out of 2500 UK moth species eat clothes!!!
The Tankerton slopes are home to a rare moth that in Britain, it is only found in North Essex and Kent!
The caterpillars are dependent on one particular plant; Hog’s Fennel, which also has a very limited distribution and is at risk from sea-level rise! The caterpillars feed in the stems and roots of the plants and we need your help to find evidence of the caterpillars' presence by searching for signs of feeding by looking for frass volcanoes or piles of caterpillar poo!
This fits in perfectly with a local beach clean as they are a coastal specialised species, needing clean beaches and a good habitat as this is one of the only places they can be found, so let’s work together to survey them and then protect them for the future!
We hope to see you there!
